History

The creator of Egyptian Freemasonry and the Egyptian Rite was Count Alexander of Cagliostro. He was initiated into the secrets of Egyptian Freemasonry in 1776 by a mysterious Master named Altothas. Cagliostro had a secret connection with Weishaupt's Illuminati Order. Napoleon Bonaparte was initiated by Cagliostro into Egyptian Freemasonry. The Masonic Rites of Memphis, Misraïm and Memphis-Misraïm descend from Egyptian Freemasonry.

The Bédarride brothers developed the Rite of Misraïm in France in 1810–1813. The Rite of Memphis was established at Montauban in 1815. Garibaldi united the Rites of Memphis and Misraïm in 1881. Theodor Reuss established the Sovereign Sanctuary of Memphis-Misraïm in 1902. The Rite was later incorporated into the Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO) founded by Reuss in 1905. In 1981, Francesco Brunelli and Frank G. Ripel restructured the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm, which was revived as Egyptian Freemasonry of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm in 2003.

Upon arriving in Brazil, and already under the administration of the Sovereign Grand Master, JOSÉ IVO SAMPAIO DE CARVALHO (Frater Morpheus), the Order maintained the traditional bases of the 6 Alchemical Operations. From June 24, 2006, together with 2 other Sovereign Sanctuaries, they began to use the rituals of speculative Freemasonry, satisfying the desires of some and maintaining the Primordial Tradition of Egyptian Freemasonry.

In 2003, the brothers JOSÉ IVO SAMPAIO DE CARVALHO, JOSEDSON RAMOS and LINESIO JOSE DE MAGALHÃES DUARTE, created a TRIANGLE of Masonic studies, presided over by the first, under the name of ILLUMINATED KNIGHTS, and working in the RITE OF THE ILLUMINATI OF BAVARIA. However, in the year 2004, the triangle fell asleep. On March 7, 2005, the TRIANGLE of Masonic studies was recreated again, now with the participation of brothers JOSE IVO SAMPAIO DE CARVALHO, FLAVIO JOSE DE AMORIM and JOÃO CASSIANO DOS SANTOS, under the presidency of the first, and, like the previous one, under the name of ILLUMINATED KNIGHTS, however, this time working in the ANCIENT AND PRIMITIVE EGYPTIAN RITE OF MEMPHIS AND MISRAIM (99 degrees).

Currently, the Sovereign Sanctuary practices all Degrees of the Inferior (4th to 33rd) and Superior (34th, 43rd, 49th, 62nd, 65th, 66th, 90th and 95th) hierarchy, in addition to having incorporated Internal Orders (restricted to a few holders of the 95th Degree) and other collateral ones, such as the Martinist/Martinezist Order and the Kabbalistic Rosicrucian Order, these for members of the Sanctuary and their families. The Sovereign Sanctuary also has 10 ancient Orders and Rites such as the Swedenborg Rite, the Rite of the Crata Repoa, the Rite of the Illuminated of Bavaria.
